Review
Weebly review 2026: still running, but Square points new sites elsewhere
The short answer
Weebly still runs in the US, and Weebly says it has "no plans to discontinue the Weebly website builder at this time," but it encourages new sites to be built on Square Online and Weebly sign-ups now go to Square. Paid plans run from $13 a month billed yearly (Personal, $16 billed monthly) to $32 a month billed yearly (Performance, $36 billed monthly), and the Free plan shows Square ads. It's fine for keeping an existing simple site, but not the best place to start a new one in 2026. Its exit score is 5 out of 10.

What Weebly is and who it’s for
Weebly is a drag-and-drop website builder that started in 2006 and was bought by Square in 2018. Its home page now says “Weebly is now a part of the Square product suite.” Every plan, including Free, comes with themes, a built-in blog, an online store and space for third-party embed code.
Weebly is still sold and still runs in the US. But Square, which owns it, points new sites to its newer builder, Square Online, and has trimmed Weebly back in other ways over the past year.
Our verdict: if you already have a simple Weebly site that does its job, you can keep it running. If you are starting a new site in 2026, look at Square Online or another builder first, and read the section on leaving before you put years of work into Weebly.
Where Weebly stands in 2026
Here is what Square and Weebly have said, with dates. We report what was announced and nothing beyond it.
| Date | What happened | Source |
|---|---|---|
| By October 2025 | Weebly’s support update says “we have no plans to discontinue the Weebly website builder at this time” and encourages new sites to be built with Square Online | Weebly support update; the Square Online line as quoted by Website Builder Expert (Oct. 30, 2025) |
| December 1, 2025 | The date Weebly gave customers for removing its mobile app from the App Store and Google Play; after that, sites are managed on a computer | Weebly email to customers, as reported by Website Builder Expert |
| June 2026 | Weebly says it will stop operating in 67 countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kenya, Malaysia, Singapore, Turkey and Vietnam. The US is not one of them | Weebly email, as reported by Khaleej Times (July 5, 2026) |
| June 29, 2026 | Publishing new pages blocked in those 67 countries | Same |
| September 27, 2026 | Sites in those countries unpublished | Same |
| December 26, 2026 | Account access ends in those countries | Same |
| October 23, 2026 | The address weebly.com/signup redirects to Square’s login page | Checked on weebly.com |
For US site owners, that adds up to this: Weebly keeps running, Weebly says it has no plans to discontinue the builder “at this time,” and new customers are steered to Square. You can read the Weebly support update on Weebly’s own help site.
Weebly’s help center also has a notice called “Upcoming Changes to Weebly’s Global Operations,” about downloading site data and moving custom domains. Its text loads only with JavaScript, so the country dates above come from Khaleej Times’ report of Weebly’s email.
If your business is in one of the 67 countries, your account closes on December 26, 2026. Download what you can before then, using the steps in the leaving section below.
Plans and what they really cost
These prices come from the Weebly pricing page, read October 23, 2026. The page footer still says “© 2019 Square, Inc,” so it may not have been refreshed in a while.
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | How Weebly describes it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | “Basic use” |
| Personal | $13 a month | $16 a month | “Connect to a custom domain” |
| Professional | $15 a month | $20 a month | “Connect your domain and add more customization” |
| Performance | $32 a month | $36 a month | “Add features that drive growth and manage operations” |
Every plan, Free included, lists free SSL, third-party embed code, SEO tools and a store with a shopping cart, unlimited items, item options, inventory, in-store pickup, automatic tax, coupons and Square gift cards. Every plan also lists the community forum plus chat and email support.
The Free plan uses a Weebly subdomain, shows Square ads and has no custom domain. Its storage limit isn’t shown on the pricing page, and we couldn’t confirm whether brand-new users can still open a free Weebly site, since sign-up now goes to Square.
Weebly’s pricing page doesn’t list a Weebly transaction fee. Square’s help says checkout runs through Square, Stripe or PayPal, and each payment gateway charges its own processing fee on every sale. The rates for Weebly sites aren’t on the pricing page, so check them with your processor.
We also couldn’t confirm Weebly’s cancellation and refund terms, or whether Weebly sells email at your own domain.
A 3-year cost example
Here is a small business site with a .com from an outside registrar and one Google Workspace inbox, on the two cheapest plans that connect your own domain. Weebly’s table mentions a free domain on some plans but doesn’t publish which ones, how long it lasts or what it renews at, so we priced the domain separately.
| Cost over 3 years | Personal | Professional |
|---|---|---|
| Weebly plan, billed yearly ($13 or $15 a month) | $468 | $540 |
| .com at Namecheap ($11.28 first year, $18.48 renewals) | $48.24 | $48.24 |
| Google Workspace Business Starter, 1 user ($7 a month billed yearly) | $252 | $252 |
| Total | $768.24 | $840.24 |
The math: Personal is $13 x 12 x 3 = $468 and Professional is $15 x 12 x 3 = $540. Paying month to month raises the plan cost to $576 on Personal ($16 x 36) or $720 on Professional ($20 x 36), for totals of $876.24 and $1,020.24. Processing fees on any sales come on top.
If your plan’s free domain covers the first year, take $11.28 off. For comparison, with the same domain and inbox, WordPress on Bluehost Starter comes to $432.60 over 3 years and Wix Core to $1,332.96. Square Online’s Square Free plan costs $0 a month, with online card payments at 3.3% + 30 cents per sale.
What you can build
Design and pages
You build with drag-and-drop pages on a theme from Weebly’s gallery. Weebly doesn’t publish how many themes it has. You can add lead-capture forms, an Instagram feed and third-party embed code, and paste code into the site header and footer.
Weebly told customers its mobile app would be removed from the app stores on December 1, 2025, so editing happens on a computer.
Blog
Weebly has a built-in blog. That’s a plus for writing, but a minus for leaving: blog posts are not in Weebly’s site backup, as the next section explains.
Store
The store is on every plan, including Free, with the features listed above. Checkout runs through Square, Stripe or PayPal. If selling is the main job of your site, compare it with Square Online, which Square now steers sellers toward.
SEO
Square’s help on site settings lists the SEO basics: a site description (the meta description search engines may show), meta keywords, header and footer code for search-engine verification and Google Analytics, a hide-from-search toggle and 301 redirects for pages you move in from an old host.
AI features
We found no AI features on Weebly’s pricing page or home page.
What happens when you leave
Square’s site settings help article says Settings > Archive lets you “Download a zip file of your website for backup purposes.” It doesn’t list what’s inside. Square’s own community staff fill in the gaps.
- Content: a Weebly Community Manager confirmed the zip “does not include your blog posts” and is “made to be a personal backup,” not a file to import elsewhere. A Square moderator said in January 2024 that the archive doesn’t work for blog sites, and that Square can email a CSV listing your uploaded files, without the blog text. A 2023 test by WebNots found main page HTML, images and the blog index in the zip, but not individual blog posts or product pages.
- Design and code: you get static page HTML and CSS. Forms, the store, galleries and App Center widgets stop working outside Weebly, and the zip can’t be loaded back into Weebly.
- Store data: a product CSV export exists, but a Square Community thread from February to June 2026 reports the export email never arriving for older Weebly stores, and the seller being told they were “on our own” on the older version. Order, customer and form-entry exports aren’t confirmed in Square’s help.
- Domain: a domain you connected from another registrar stays there. For a domain bought through Square, the official transfer article covers Square Online: you turn off the registrar lock to get the auth (EPP) code, a change to the owner’s contact details triggers a 60-day lock, transfers take about 7 to 10 days and WHOIS privacy switches off once the lock is off. For Weebly, the steps come only from a 2020 Square Community Manager answer, several users said the option was missing, and the same manager later said those steps may not apply to Weebly.
- Redirects: Weebly has 301 redirects for pages moving in, but nothing documented for moving out. Once your domain points elsewhere, Weebly’s redirects stop.
If you blog on Weebly, save each post yourself (copy the text and images) while your plan is active. Run the product CSV export early and check that the file actually arrives.
Weebly’s 5 out of 10 is higher than Square Online’s 2 out of 10, because Weebly at least hands you a zip of your pages. Either way, a website migration off Weebly is mostly a rebuild. Our guides to leaving your website builder and moving your website cover the order to do things in.
Gotchas
- Sign-up goes to Square. On October 23, 2026, weebly.com/signup redirected to Square’s login page.
- New sites are pointed elsewhere. Weebly’s support update encourages new sites on Square Online, even while saying it has no plans to discontinue Weebly (as quoted by Website Builder Expert, October 2025).
- The backup is not an export. The zip leaves out blog posts and product pages and can’t be re-imported (Weebly Community Manager; WebNots).
- Closed in 67 countries. Publishing stopped June 29, 2026, sites were unpublished September 27, 2026, and accounts close December 26, 2026. The US is not affected (Khaleej Times, citing Weebly’s email).
- No mobile app. Weebly said it would be removed from the app stores on December 1, 2025.
- Ads on Free. The Free plan shows Square ads. “Remove Square Ads” is listed on two plans, but the table doesn’t clearly show which two.
- An old pricing page. The official pricing page footer still reads “© 2019 Square, Inc.”
Who should pick Weebly, and who should not
Weebly still makes sense if:
- You already have a simple Weebly site in the US that works, and you don’t want to rebuild it yet.
- You sell a little through Square and want a basic store attached to your site.
Look elsewhere if:
- You are starting a new site in 2026. Square itself steers new sites away from Weebly.
- You blog and may want to take your posts with you.
- Your business is in one of the 67 countries being shut down.
- You want to manage your site from your phone.
Alternatives worth a look
- Square Online: Square’s recommendation for new sites. Square Free is $0 a month (online card payments at 3.3% + 30 cents), and Square Plus is $49 a month per location. Its exit score is 2 out of 10, lower than Weebly’s.
- WordPress: we build on WordPress every week. You own the files and the database, it scores 10 out of 10 for leaving and it costs $432.60 over 3 years on Bluehost Starter with a domain and inbox.
- Wix: a full drag-and-drop builder with a blog and store, from $17 a month billed yearly. Exit score 3 out of 10.
- Squarespace: polished templates, a blog and a store, from $19 a month billed yearly ($25 billed monthly). Exit score 5 out of 10.
- Carrd: if your Weebly site is really one page, Carrd Pro Standard puts it on your own domain for $19 a year.
- Free website builders compared: what each free plan really gives you.
Questions people ask
Is Weebly shutting down?
Not in the US. Weebly's support update says it has "no plans to discontinue the Weebly website builder at this time," and, as quoted by Website Builder Expert in October 2025, encourages new sites on Square Online. Weebly is closing in 67 other countries, with account access ending December 26, 2026.
How much does Weebly cost?
Weebly's pricing page lists Free at $0, Personal at $13 a month billed yearly ($16 billed monthly), Professional at $15 ($20) and Performance at $32 ($36). Processing fees on sales come on top.
Is Weebly still free?
The pricing page still lists a Free plan for basic use, with a Weebly subdomain and Square ads. We couldn't confirm whether brand-new users can still open a free Weebly site, because weebly.com/signup now redirects to Square.
Can I export my Weebly site?
You can download a zip backup from Settings, then Archive. Square's community staff say it leaves out blog posts and can't be imported elsewhere, and product pages are missing too, so most moves off Weebly mean rebuilding.
What's the difference between Weebly and Square Online?
Square owns both. Square Online is the builder Square encourages for new sites, and since October 2025 it comes with Square Free ($0), Square Plus ($49 a month per location) or Square Premium ($149 a month per location).
Does Weebly have a mobile app?
Not anymore. Weebly emailed customers that its app would be removed from the App Store and Google Play on December 1, 2025, so you manage your site on a computer.
