The short answer

AI builders come in two kinds. Some are regular website builders with AI that drafts your pages, like Wix and Squarespace. Others, like Lovable, Bolt and v0, write real code for a full web app from a prompt. Pick by what you're making: a business website or an app.

Two kinds of AI builders

AI inside a website builder. You describe your business, the builder drafts a site, and you edit it by hand. Wix Harmony, Squarespace’s Blueprint AI, Hostinger’s AI builder, Framer and Webflow AI work this way. Your site still lives on that platform, with its usual plans and limits.

AI app builders. You chat with an AI agent that writes the actual code, including pages, a database and user log-ins. Lovable, Bolt and v0 work this way. Building like this is often called vibe coding.

GoDaddy’s Airo sits between the two. It builds sites and simple web apps from prompts, and paid plans let you download the code.

Which kind fits you

For a business site, portfolio or blog, AI inside a regular builder is usually the simpler path. Templates, hosting, forms and support come in one place, and the setup is no-code, so you never touch code.

For something with log-ins, a database or custom logic, such as a startup MVP or an internal tool, an AI app builder fits better. Expect to learn some technical basics, or to bring in a developer later.

Costs work differently

Most AI tools meter usage. Lovable and v0 use credits, Bolt uses tokens, and builders like Squarespace, Framer and Webflow give a set number of AI credits per plan. Bigger projects use up allowances faster, so check what a plan includes before you commit.

Leaving is easier, with a catch

The app builders score high on our exit scores: v0 gets 10, and Lovable and Bolt get 9, because the code can go to GitHub. But the skill needed to leave is rated High. You need a developer to run that code somewhere else.
