The quick verdict

Pick Kajabi if you want one tool for your website, blog, email marketing, funnels and community, and your sales can carry $143 a month or more (billed yearly). Every plan includes unlimited marketing emails, Kajabi has a built-in blog, and it takes no revenue share.

Pick Teachable if you mainly sell courses, already have a website or blog, and want a lower fixed cost. Builder is $69 a month billed yearly with a 0% Teachable fee, teachable:pay handles US sales tax, and BackOffice can automate co-author payouts. Skip Starter once you sell regularly: its 7.5% fee adds up fast.

Trials vary with promotions. On October 23, 2026, Kajabi’s homepage also advertised a free 30-day trial and 50% off for six months, and a Teachable pop-up offered an extended 30-day trial. Check the terms at checkout, and judge the plan on its regular price.

Growth costs differ too. Kajabi sells extra contacts in blocks of 25,000 for $125 a month, so a large free list can push you up a tier. Teachable does not cap students.

Both are large, established platforms by their own count. Kajabi’s homepage claims “$12B+” earned by creators; Teachable’s claims “$3.5B+ earned” (its FAQ says “more than $10 billion” for Teachable and Hotmart creators combined). Both figures are self-reported.

Kajabi vs Teachable cost over 3 years

We priced the same course business on both: 40 sales a month of a $97 course for three years, which is 1,440 sales and $139,680 in revenue. We add a domain ($48.24 over three years) and one Google Workspace inbox ($252), and compare the plans most sellers start on.

Cost itemKajabi Basic, yearlyTeachable Builder, yearly
Plan, 36 months$1,716 x 3 = $5,148$828 x 3 = $2,484
Domain + email$300.24$300.24
Platform fee$0$0
Card processing, 1,440 sales$4,482.72$4,482.72
3-year total$9,930.96$7,266.96

Processing is 2.9% of $97 ($2.813) plus $0.30, or $3.113 a sale, on both. So the $2,664 gap is the plan price alone.

Other pairings, with the same sales and the same domain and email:

  • Kajabi Growth vs Teachable Growth (both remove the platform’s branding): $11,807.28 vs $9,786.96. Kajabi Growth’s 2.8% card rate saves $139.68 in fees over three years.
  • Billed monthly: Kajabi Basic at $179 comes to $11,226.96; Teachable Builder at $89 comes to $7,986.96.
  • Teachable Starter: $16,302.96. Its plan is the cheapest, but the 7.5% fee costs $10,476 over three years here. Builder pays for itself above $6,400 a year in sales when both are billed yearly.

Kajabi’s extra cost buys tools rather than lower fees. If it replaces a separate email marketing service, blog host or community app, the gap shrinks. Our course website cost page runs the same example on Thinkific, Podia, Stan, Skool, Gumroad and WordPress.

Design and ease of use

Kajabi gives you a full website on every plan (3 websites on Pro), plus landing pages and funnels. You build the site, the sales pages and the course area in the same dashboard.

Teachable’s site builder covers landing, sales, about and contact pages, and you can connect a custom root domain on any paid plan. Custom code needs its Business plan. It is a course school first, with a website around it.

Team size differs more than most people expect:

  • Kajabi: 2 admin users on Basic, 11 on Growth, 26 on Pro.
  • Teachable: 1 admin on Starter and Builder, 5 on Growth.

Branding: Kajabi’s “Powered by Kajabi” footer stays on Basic and comes off on Growth; Teachable removes its branding on Growth. Both have student mobile apps on all plans, and Kajabi Pro adds your own branded app in the App Store.

Selling, email and blog

  • Products: Kajabi allows 5, 50 or unlimited products by plan. Teachable allows 5, 10 or 50 published products; memberships don’t count, but coaching and digital downloads do.
  • Email: Kajabi includes unlimited marketing emails on all plans, capped by contacts. Teachable lists “built-in email marketing” and lead forms, but per-plan limits are not published.
  • Blog and SEO: Kajabi has a built-in blog with tags, publish dates and blog SEO settings. We found no native blog on Teachable, so content marketing needs a separate site.
  • Community: Kajabi includes 1 community on Basic and Growth and 3 on Pro. Teachable’s community starts on Builder.
  • Affiliates: Kajabi’s affiliate program is on Growth and Pro, paid automatically through PayPal or by hand. Teachable’s starts on Builder, but automated affiliate and co-author payouts need BackOffice, at 2% to 2.8%.

Payments, payouts and sales tax

This is where the two differ most behind the scenes. See our payment gateway and transaction fees entries for the terms.

  • Kajabi Payments pays to your bank daily, weekly or monthly. New accounts start on monthly payouts with a 7-business-day delay. Extras: +1.5% on international cards, +0.7% on subscriptions and payment plans, $15 per dispute, and refunds don’t return the original fees. Kajabi Sales Tax costs $0.15 per transaction where you turn it on.
  • teachable:pay (built with Stripe) pays daily, weekly or monthly. New schools may face a 100% reserve released after 14 days; the standard reserve is 10%, released after 45 days. It handles US sales tax and EU and UK VAT. Schools that don’t qualify use a PayPal gateway that pays two months in arrears, so January sales arrive in March.
What the “2% for US-based creators” fee is. Teachable’s gateway comparison lists it under the Custom Payment Gateway, where you connect your own Stripe or PayPal: “US-based: 2% per transaction,” 0% for creators based outside the US. On teachable:pay the fee is 7.5% on Starter and 0% from Builder up. The custom gateway also drops teachable:pay’s tax handling, and affiliate payouts become manual (Teachable help).

AI features

Kajabi includes AI credits by plan: 0 on Basic, 500 on Growth and 1,000 on Pro. Teachable lists “Create with AI” on every plan and free subtitles and translations on Growth, but publishes no AI credit limits to compare. Neither should decide this choice.

Leaving later

Neither platform is on our exit scores list yet, so here is what their help centers say you can take:

  • Kajabi: contacts export to CSV by email (the link expires after 3 days, capped at your plan’s contact limit). Only a Course Template exports; videos download one at a time. When you cancel, the site goes inactive, customers lose access and data may be deleted after 90 days.
  • Teachable: students and transactions export to CSV by email. There is no whole-course export; videos and files download one at a time and text is copied by hand. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle.

On ownership, Kajabi’s terms say “You keep ownership of your Content,” and Teachable claims no rights to your content but may keep a copy after you leave. Either way, keep master files of every lesson yourself. Our guide to leaving your website builder has a full checklist.

Refunds on your own plan are similar: Kajabi gives a full refund within 30 days of your first charge, and Teachable within 30 days of your first paid sign-up.

Pick Kajabi if… Pick Teachable if…

Pick Kajabi if:

  • You want your website, blog, email list, funnels and community in one login.
  • You have a team, since even Basic includes 2 admins.
  • Your revenue already covers $1,716 a year, or Kajabi replaces tools you pay for now.

Pick Teachable if:

  • You already have a website or blog and need a place to host and sell courses.
  • You want a low fixed cost: Builder is $828 a year billed yearly with a 0% platform fee.
  • You split revenue with co-authors or want US sales tax handled through teachable:pay.

Neither? Look at these

  • Thinkific: Start is $82 a month billed yearly after a roughly 10% price rise on August 13, 2026, with unlimited courses and no Thinkific fee on Thinkific Payments.
  • Systeme.io: a forever-free plan with 1 course and 0% platform fees, then $17 a month.
  • Podia: from $42 a month billed yearly (monthly prices not published on its pricing page), paid straight to your own Stripe or PayPal.
  • WordPress with a course plugin: the route you fully own, at 10/10 on our exit score. See our WordPress review.

Our course and creator websites guide compares all of them, plus Stan Store, Gumroad, Skool and Udemy.
