Website builder comparisons

The short answer

Our comparisons put two platforms side by side on price, 3-year cost, design, store and SEO features, AI tools and how easy each is to leave. Each one opens with a plain verdict on who should pick which, so you can stop reading once you have your answer.

How each comparison works

Every comparison follows the same layout: a quick verdict, a side-by-side table, the cost over three years, design and ease of use, store, blog and SEO features, AI tools, and what happens if you leave.

For the 3-year cost, we price the same small-business site on both platforms. That includes the domain after year one, email and transaction fees, so the totals are fair to compare.

We don’t hold test accounts on every builder. Instead, each fact in a comparison comes from the vendor’s own pricing page or help docs, checked October 2026.

How to read a comparison

Start with the quick verdict. If it answers your question, you’re done.

If you plan to sell, jump to the store section and check the fees on each plan. If there’s any chance you’ll move later, look at the exit scores, because a cheaper platform can cost more if you have to rebuild. Our exit score table shows all of them at once.

Every comparison ends with a “Neither?” section that points to other platforms worth a look. If you haven’t narrowed it to two yet, try the builder finder or the best website builders list.

Questions people ask

Which is better, Squarespace or Wix?

It depends on what you need. Our Squarespace vs Wix comparison opens with a short verdict on who should pick which, then compares price, 3-year cost and exit scores.

Should I use a website builder or WordPress?

Builders are easier to start and maintain; self-hosted WordPress gives you more control and is easier to move. Our builder vs WordPress comparisons cover the trade-offs.

Why do you compare cost over three years?

Many builders include a free domain or email for the first year only. Comparing three years shows what each platform costs once those extras end.
