About Web Building

The short answer

Web Building (webbuilding.net) is an independent US guide to choosing and paying for a website builder. It is run by Rank Summit Agency, a US web development and SEO agency whose owner, Theo, builds and runs 150+ WordPress sites. We check facts against official vendor pages and show what each platform costs over three years and what happens if you leave.

Who we are

Web Building is an independent guide for people in the US who want to build a website without overpaying for it. We cover hosted website builders, WordPress, store platforms and the newer AI builders.

The site is owned and run by Spencer Gasselin LLC, a Wyoming LLC doing business as Rank Summit Agency. Rank Summit is a US digital marketing and web development agency that handles SEO, Google Ads and website builds.

Articles carry the byline “Theo, Rank Summit Agency”. Theo owns the agency and builds and runs more than 150 WordPress sites. A lot of what we know about hosting, domains, plugins and moving sites comes from that daily work.

Why this site exists

Most builder reviews stop at the headline price and the template gallery. Those are the parts a builder wants you to see.

We focus on the two things that tend to surprise people later:

  • The true 3-year cost. The plan, plus the domain after the free first year, email, paid apps and transaction fees. Our website cost guide shows how it adds up.
  • What happens when you leave. Every platform gets an exit score out of 10 that shows what you can take with you. See the exit score table.

We also explain the jargon. When a term like CMS or domain registrar comes up, it links to a short definition.

What we do and don’t claim

We do not hold test accounts on every builder, and we won’t pretend we do. You won’t find claims of testing we didn’t do, and you won’t find star ratings.

Instead, facts come from each vendor’s official pricing pages, help centers and docs. We date every check, re-check every three months, and say plainly when a vendor doesn’t publish something.

The one platform we write about from first-hand use is self-hosted WordPress, because we build on it every week. The full process is on our how we research page, and the rules our writers follow are in the editorial policy.

How the site makes money

Some links on the site go through a /go/ address. If you buy through one of those, we may earn a commission from the vendor. Today that can include Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Framer, Hostinger and Shopify.

Commissions never change a score or the order of a list, and no platform pays to be listed. The details are in our affiliate disclosure.

Found a mistake?

Prices and plans change often. If you spot something wrong or out of date, email connect@webbuilding.net or use the contact page. We fix it and note the date of the fix on the page.
