Landing page builders compared: Unbounce, Leadpages, Instapage and when you don't need one (2026)

The short answer

If you already have a website and run a few ads, your builder's own landing pages are usually enough and cost nothing extra. Pay for a dedicated landing page builder when you need A/B testing or many ad pages: Leadpages Pro is $23 a month billed yearly with unlimited traffic, Unbounce Starter is $22 for 5 pages and 500 visitors, and Instapage starts at $79. Over three years that adds $792 to $5,724 on the plans we compare, and most of them say their fees are non-refundable.

What a landing page builder is for

A landing page is one page built for one action: a quote request, a booked call, a signup or a single purchase. Visitors usually arrive from an ad or an email, so the page drops the full menu that would pull them somewhere else.

A landing page builder is software made only for these pages. Unbounce, Leadpages, Instapage and Swipe Pages host the pages on your domain, collect form leads and offer A/B testing, which shows two versions of a page to different visitors so you can keep the one that gets more leads.

The verdict first: if you already have a website and run a few ads, start with your builder’s own pages. Pay for a dedicated tool when you need A/B testing, a lot of ad pages, or a marketer who builds pages without touching the main site.

When your website builder’s own pages are enough

Most builders can make a page with no header or footer, which is all many campaigns need. Here is what each one offers, according to its own help center or pricing page.

  • Wix: add a page from a landing page template or from scratch, then set Layouts to “No Header and Footer.” Add a button back to your site, since the menu disappears. The free plan shows Wix ads and a Wix URL, so your own domain needs a paid plan (Light is $17 a month billed yearly), and taking payments needs Core or higher.
  • Squarespace: version 7.1 sites have no cover pages, so Squarespace suggests hiding the header and footer on the pages you choose. Cover pages, its one-page splash layout, exist only on older 7.0 sites. Any paid plan works; Basic is $19 a month billed yearly ($25 billed monthly).
  • WordPress: with a block theme, open the Site Editor, choose Add Template, then Custom Template, remove the header and footer blocks and assign the template to one page. That costs nothing beyond hosting. If you use Elementor, it lists its landing page builder in every plan, but forms that save submissions and the Popup Builder need Advanced Solo ($84 a year) or higher.
  • HubSpot: a dedicated landing page tool with templates and forms. The free tools allow up to 30 landing pages with HubSpot branding. Starter ($7 a seat a month billed yearly, a new-customer promo; the regular price is $20) removes the branding but keeps the 30-page cap. Content Hub Professional raises it to 10,000.
  • Mailchimp: landing pages with templates, signup forms and product blocks are on the free plan and publish on a Mailchimp domain. Meta Pixel and Google Analytics tracking need you to accept extra terms, and custom HTML and iframes aren’t allowed. A custom domain needs a paid Websites plan; we couldn’t confirm its price.
  • Shopify: there’s no separate landing page tool. You create an alternate page or product template in the theme editor (up to 1,000 templates on compatible themes) and assign it to one page. Page builder apps cost extra. Basic is $29 a month billed yearly ($39 billed monthly).

The gap: we found no built-in A/B testing for single pages documented by Wix, Squarespace, Mailchimp or Shopify, and we couldn’t confirm which HubSpot tier includes it. If testing matters to you, that is the main reason to pay for a dedicated tool.

The cost difference. A landing page inside a site you already pay for adds $0. The dedicated tools below add $792 to $5,724 over three years on the plans we compare, billed yearly. Carrd, a one-page builder, adds $57.

Dedicated landing page builders compared

Prices are from each vendor’s pricing page. “Billed yearly” figures are per month, paid once a year.

ToolStarts atPages and visitorsA/B testing from
UnbounceStarter: $22 a month billed yearly ($29 monthly)Starter: 5 pages, 500 visitors a month. Build: unlimited pages, 20,000 visitorsExperiment: $112 billed yearly ($149 monthly)
LeadpagesPro: $23 a month billed yearly ($29 monthly)Pro: 25 pages. Unlimited traffic on every planGrow: $79 billed yearly ($99 monthly)
InstapageCreate: $79 a month billed yearly ($99 monthly)Unlimited pages; 15,000 unique visitors a monthOptimize: $159 billed yearly ($199 monthly)
Swipe PagesStartup: $29 a month billed yearly ($39 monthly)Unlimited pages; 20,000 visits a monthMarketer: $69 billed yearly ($89 monthly)
CarrdPro Standard: $19 a year10 one-page sitesNot offered

A few notes on those numbers:

  • Instapage shows its annual prices by default: Create $79 and Optimize $159 a month. Switched to monthly billing, the same plans page shows $99 and $199 a month (both read on October 23, 2026). Root domain publishing and heatmaps come only with Convert, which has a custom price.
  • Unbounce prints only a per-month figure for yearly billing and no yearly total.
  • Leadpages disagrees with itself on a few limits, including whether Grow’s testing is 6 variants or “2-way only.” Our Unbounce vs Leadpages comparison lists each conflict.
  • Overages: Unbounce bills $80 for each extra 10,000 visits or part of that, and Swipe Pages $5 for each extra 5,000. Instapage’s Terms bill use over your limits at list price. Leadpages has no visitor cap.

Leaving and refunds matter as much as the price, because these tools host your pages:

ToolCan pages leave?RefundsWhen you cancel
UnbounceOnly as .unbounce files for another Unbounce account; leads export to CSVFees are “strictly non-refundable”Pages move to unbouncepages.com; the Terms say the account is deleted within 90 days
LeadpagesHTML download, but the supported copy still loads from Leadpages7-day money-back guarantee after the first charge (help article, Feb 2026)Pages stop at the end of the billing cycle; assets held up to a year

Who each one is right for:

  • Unbounce: pay-per-click teams that want A/B testing and Smart Traffic, its AI routing that sends each visitor to the version most likely to convert for them (Optimize plan, $187 a month billed yearly).
  • Leadpages: small businesses that want low-cost pages with no traffic cap, plus a small site and blog.
  • Instapage: ad teams that need ad-to-page personalization and server-side tests, which avoid the flicker of a page swapping versions.
  • Swipe Pages: mobile-first ad pages on a budget, with AMP publishing. It is a Singapore company and its Terms use Singapore law.
  • Carrd: one cheap ad page. It has no A/B testing and no popups, and its exit score of 6 out of 10 reflects a full HTML download on Pro Plus.

What they cost over three years

The site’s standard math: the plan, plus a .com domain name ($48.24 over three years, since none of these tools includes one) and one Google Workspace inbox ($252). Most people add a landing page tool to a domain they already own, so the middle column is the real extra spend.

Plan, billed yearlyTool, 3 yearsWith domain and inbox
Carrd Pro Standard$57$357.24
Unbounce Starter$792$1,092.24
Leadpages Pro$828$1,128.24
Swipe Pages Startup$1,044$1,344.24
Leadpages Grow$2,844$3,144.24
Instapage Create$2,844$3,144.24
Unbounce Experiment$4,032$4,332.24
Instapage Optimize$5,724$6,024.24

The math: the per-month price times 36 (Leadpages: $276 a year times 3; Carrd: $19 a year times 3). Billed monthly, Unbounce Starter and Leadpages Pro are each $1,044 over three years, and Instapage Create is $3,564.

For scale, a whole WordPress site on Bluehost Starter with a domain and an inbox comes to $432.60 over three years, and a Squarespace or Wix Core site to $1,332.96. Try your own numbers in the cost calculator.

Funnel builders: ClickFunnels and systeme.io

A funnel builder chains several pages together, such as an opt-in page, a sales page, checkout, an upsell and a thank-you page, and adds email, courses and a store. It replaces more of your stack than a landing page builder does, and it is harder to leave.

  • ClickFunnels: Launch is $97 a month billed monthly, or $970 a year, with unlimited pages and visitors, A/B split tests on funnel steps, and no ClickFunnels cut of your sales. Launch has no automations. Its Terms, updated January 18, 2026, require 10 days’ notice to cancel and give no refund for an annual plan cancelled early, and cancelling deletes your content. Exit score: 3 out of 10. Our ClickFunnels review has the details.
  • systeme.io: a free-forever plan with 2,000 contacts, 3 funnels, 1 blog and 1 custom domain, then Startup at $17 a month billed monthly. It charges 0% transaction fees; you pay only Stripe or PayPal. Per-plan A/B testing limits weren’t readable on its pricing page, and no page or funnel export is documented.

Pick a funnel builder if you sell courses or info products and want checkout and email in one account; our creator websites guide compares the course platforms. Pick a landing page builder if you mainly send ad traffic to lead forms beside an existing site.

Google Ads disapproves ads whose landing page fails its destination requirements. In short:

  • The page must work on common browsers and devices and load in the places you target. Broken pages or errors returned to Google’s AdsBot get ads disapproved.
  • The display URL must match the domain visitors land on; redirects to another domain aren’t allowed.
  • Google’s AdsBot must be able to crawl the page.
  • The page must be easy to use and safe, with no direct downloads, and must offer original content, not a page built mainly for ads.
  • Phone numbers in call and location assets must be verified, in service and yours.

Landing page experience is also one of the three parts of Quality Score. Google rates it per keyword as above average, average or below average, based on relevance to the search, clear and useful content, and organization. Google’s misrepresentation policy adds that pricing must be clear and offers in the ad must be easy to find on the page. Our websites and Google Ads guide covers conversion tracking per builder.

The FTC’s advertising guidance for small business applies to every sales page:

  • Have proof before an ad runs. A money-back guarantee doesn’t replace proof, and testimonials usually don’t prove objective claims.
  • Put disclosures near the claim, clearly. Fine print can’t fix a misleading headline.
  • Endorsements must be honest and material connections disclosed. If a testimonial shows unusual results, say what people generally achieve; “results may vary” isn’t enough.
  • The Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule, in effect since October 21, 2024, bans fake reviews and testimonials and review incentives tied to positive sentiment.

On subscriptions, law-firm reports say the Eighth Circuit vacated the FTC’s “click to cancel” rule in July 2025, but the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act still requires clear terms, consent and simple cancellation for online subscriptions.

How to choose

  1. Count your pages and visitors. Under 5 pages and 500 visitors a month fits Unbounce Starter; more traffic points to Leadpages (no cap) or a higher tier.
  2. Decide if you’ll A/B test. If not, your current builder is likely enough. If yes, testing starts at $69 to $159 a month billed yearly on the dedicated tools.
  3. Check tracking. Leadpages and Swipe Pages list native Google Ads connections; Unbounce and Instapage use the Google tag or Tag Manager.
  4. Use a subdomain. Pointing something like go.yourbusiness.com at the tool with a DNS record keeps your main site where it is. On Unbounce, the SSL certificate needs Cloudflare’s proxy turned off.
  5. Plan the exit. Export leads regularly, and read the refund terms before paying for a year. Our guide to leaving a website builder covers the rest.

Questions people ask

What is the best landing page builder for a small business?

If you only need a few ad pages, use the builder your site already runs on. For a dedicated tool, Leadpages Pro is the lowest-cost option with unlimited traffic ($23 a month billed yearly), while Unbounce and Instapage suit teams that will A/B test.

Do I need a landing page builder for Google Ads?

No. Google Ads requires a working, crawlable page on the same domain as your display URL with original content, which any website builder can provide. A dedicated tool mainly adds A/B testing and faster page building.

Which landing page builders have A/B testing on the cheapest plan?

None of the four dedicated tools we compared. Testing starts on Unbounce Experiment ($112 a month billed yearly), Leadpages Grow ($79), Instapage Optimize ($159) and Swipe Pages Marketer ($69). ClickFunnels lists A/B split tests on every plan, starting at $97 a month.

Can I move my landing pages from Unbounce or Leadpages to another tool?

Not easily. Unbounce pages download only as .unbounce files for another Unbounce account. Leadpages offers an HTML download, but the supported version still loads from Leadpages, and the static copy breaks analytics and split tests.

Can I get a refund from a landing page builder?

Usually not. Unbounce, Swipe Pages and Instapage say fees are non-refundable (Instapage unless it agrees otherwise). Leadpages' help center describes a 7-day money-back guarantee after your first charge, requested through support.
