v0 review 2026: Vercel's AI builder for non-developers
The short answer
v0 by Vercel turns chat prompts into Next.js apps you can keep in your own GitHub repository, and it scores a full 10 out of 10 on our exit score. Plus costs $30 per user a month billed monthly, hosting is billed separately by Vercel, and costs climb while you fix bugs, especially on pricier models. It's best for people with a developer on hand; most small businesses that need a simple website will do better with a regular builder.

What it is and who it’s for
v0 is Vercel’s AI app builder. You describe what you want in a chat, and v0 writes a web app using Next.js, a popular framework for building React sites. It styles the app with Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui, a set of ready-made interface pieces like buttons, forms and menus. Then it can deploy the app to Vercel’s servers with one click. This kind of chat-first building is often called vibe coding.
The product now lives at v0.app; it used to be v0.dev. Vercel, Inc. runs both v0 and the hosting platform it deploys to.
Of the big AI builders, v0 leans the most toward developers. It suits people already using Vercel and Next.js, designers building front-end prototypes, and teams that want AI changes delivered as GitHub pull requests (proposed changes a person can review before they go live). A non-technical owner can use it, but hosting is a separate Vercel account and plan, and the v0 docs we reviewed don’t confirm a built-in database or login service.
Plans and what they really cost
v0 charges per user, per month, and each plan includes a dollar amount of AI credits. Here is what v0’s pricing page lists.
| Plan | Price | Credits included | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | One-time $5 credit offer; 7 messages a day | Deploy to Vercel, Design Mode, GitHub sync |
| Plus | $30 per user a month billed monthly | $30 a month, plus $2 daily on login | All models, team collaboration |
| Business | $100 per user a month billed monthly | $30 a month, plus $2 daily on login | Adds training opt-out by default |
| Enterprise | Custom quote | Custom | SAML SSO, support SLAs |
Yearly prices for Plus and Business aren’t shown on the pricing page. The older $20 Premium plan has been sunsetted and is listed in the docs for existing subscribers only.
Notice that Business costs $70 more than Plus but includes the same $30 of monthly credits. You’re paying for business terms, such as training opt-out by default, not for more AI work.
How credits work
v0’s credits are dollars. If your plan includes $30 of credits, you have $30 of AI work to spend each month. The AI’s work is measured in tokens, small pieces of text. Input tokens are what goes into the AI with your request, and output tokens are what it writes back.
The price per token depends on which AI model you pick. v0 publishes these rates per million tokens:
| Model | Input, per 1M tokens | Output, per 1M tokens |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | $2 | $10 |
| Max | $5 | $25 |
| Max Fast | $10 | $50 |
There’s also a cheaper small model at $0.20 for input and $1.20 for output per million tokens. A million tokens sounds like a lot, but writing and rewriting a whole app is a lot of text. We won’t guess how far $30 goes for your project. v0 shows each model’s cost when you hover over the model picker, so check it before long sessions.
Unused monthly credits roll over to the next billing cycle and expire after 65 days. Credits you buy expire one year after purchase. They stay in your balance if your subscription lapses, but you need an active paid plan to use them, according to v0’s pricing docs.
A 3-year cost example
Here is a small service business with one person building on Plus, billed monthly, and one email inbox. The big missing piece is hosting: v0 deploys to Vercel, which bills hosting separately under your own Vercel plan. We haven’t priced Vercel’s plans for this review, so that line is left open.
| Item | Year 1 | Years 2-3 | 3-year total |
|---|---|---|---|
| v0 Plus, 1 user, $30 billed monthly | $360 | $720 | $1,080 |
| .com domain (Porkbun, $11.08 a year) | $11.08 | $22.16 | $33.24 |
| Google Workspace Business Starter, 1 user ($7 a month, annual plan) | $84 | $168 | $252 |
| Vercel hosting | Your Vercel plan | Your Vercel plan | Not included |
| Total | $455.08 | $910.16 | $1,365.24 plus hosting |
Extra credits, if you buy them, come on top. Add a second builder and the plan line doubles, because Plus is priced per user. Domains are connected through Vercel after you deploy; v0’s own custom-domain rules weren’t confirmed. Domain prices may also rise slightly after Verisign’s wholesale .com fee goes from $10.26 to $10.97 on November 1, 2026.
What you can build
Design
v0’s output tends to look clean and modern because it builds from shadcn/ui components and Tailwind CSS, two tools many developers already use. Design Mode, available on Free, lets you make visual edits without writing a prompt for every tweak. Designs are otherwise generated from your prompts.
Blog and content updates
v0 has no built-in CMS, the editing screen where staff add posts or change prices without touching code. A blog would have to be built into the app, and later updates would go through prompts or a developer. For a business that publishes often, that’s a real cost in time and credits.
Store, database and logins
v0 isn’t a store builder. Payments would be built into your Next.js app as a feature. The v0 docs we reviewed also didn’t confirm built-in database or login integrations, such as Supabase or Neon. If your app needs saved data or customer accounts, plan that part with a developer from the start.
SEO
Next.js supports server rendering, which means search engines can receive a finished HTML page instead of one that assembles itself in the browser. That’s a good foundation. But v0 publishes no SEO-specific guidance in what we read, so page titles, descriptions, sitemaps and redirects are up to you or your developer. If you’re replacing a site that already ranks, have 301 redirects planned before launch so your SEO history carries over.
AI features and security
v0 lets you choose between models, edit visually in Design Mode, and have the AI open and merge pull requests on GitHub. Unlike Lovable and Bolt, the v0 docs we reviewed don’t describe a built-in security scan, so security review falls to you or your developer.
Two plan details matter here. Business lists “training opt-out by default,” and Enterprise says your data is never used for training. If you’d paste customer information into prompts, read v0’s terms first. Also, publishing permissions follow Vercel roles, not v0 roles, so decide who on your team can push changes live.
If your app collects customer data, protecting it is your responsibility. By one law firm’s count, 24 US states now have comprehensive consumer privacy laws, and whether one applies depends on your business. This is general information, not legal advice; see our guide to US website laws.
What happens when you leave
v0 scores a full 10 out of 10 on our exit score. Your code lives in your own GitHub repository and your data lives in services under your own accounts. The catch is the skill needed to leave: High, because someone has to run a Next.js app.
| Part | What leaves with you | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Content | Everything, because it’s in the code | 2/2 |
| Design | Yes, part of the source code | 2/2 |
| Code | Full Next.js project in your GitHub repo | 2/2 |
| Data | Held in services under your own accounts | 2/2 |
| Domain | Stays yours | 2/2 |
What “you own the code” means in practice
v0’s GitHub sync is available on every plan, including Free. v0 works on its own branches, opens a pull request and merges it into your main branch. You can also start from an existing project with “Import from GitHub.” v0’s GitHub docs say: “Once a GitHub repository is connected, it becomes the source of truth for your project’s code.”
We couldn’t confirm a direct .zip download or v0’s written terms on code ownership. In practice, the GitHub repository is your copy, and the output is standard Next.js code that many developers know.
Having the code is not the same as having a running website. Someone has to host it, on Vercel or elsewhere, keep its software packages updated, apply security fixes and fix anything that breaks. Upwork says freelance web developers on its marketplace typically charge $15 to $50 an hour, with a median of $30. Clutch says agencies typically charge $100 to $149 an hour. Our guide to leaving your website builder covers the steps.
Gotchas
- The model you pick sets the price. Max Fast costs 5 times as much per token as Pro (v0 pricing page).
- Credits expire. Monthly credits after 65 days; purchased credits after one year, and they need an active paid plan to use (v0 pricing docs).
- Per-user pricing. Plus and Business are charged per user, and Business at $100 includes the same $30 of credits as Plus (v0 pricing page).
- The Free plan is tight. 7 messages a day (v0 pricing page).
- Vercel roles control publishing. v0 roles don’t grant deployment rights outside the v0 app (v0 GitHub docs).
- The $20 plan is gone. Premium has been sunsetted for new customers (v0 pricing docs).
Who should pick it, who should not
v0 is a good pick if
- You or your developer already use Vercel, Next.js or GitHub.
- You want polished front-end prototypes or interface pieces to hand to a developer.
- You want every AI change to arrive as a pull request someone can review.
Skip v0 if
- You want hosting, a database and logins bundled into one bill.
- You plan to use it heavily for free; 7 messages a day runs out fast.
- You need a content site that staff edit every week.
- You have no developer and no budget to hire one.
Alternatives worth a look
- Lovable vs v0: Lovable bundles hosting, a database and logins, and is aimed more at non-developers.
- Lovable review: credit-based pricing and documented steps for self-hosting.
- Bolt.new review: token-based pricing with hosting, a database and Stripe built in.
Questions people ask
Is v0 free?
Yes. The Free plan allows 7 messages a day, includes a one-time $5 credit offer, and can deploy to Vercel and sync with GitHub. There are no team features.
How much does v0 cost?
Plus is $30 per user a month billed monthly and Business is $100 per user a month billed monthly. Both include $30 of monthly credits plus $2 of daily credits on login, and hosting is billed separately by Vercel.
Do I need Vercel to use v0?
v0's one-click deploy goes to Vercel, and Vercel bills hosting under your own Vercel plan. Because the code syncs to your GitHub repository, a developer could host it elsewhere.
Can a non-developer use v0?
You can build with prompts and Design Mode, but v0 produces developer-grade Next.js code and doesn't bundle a database or logins in what we read. Most non-developers will want a developer to host and maintain it.
Is v0 the same as v0.dev?
Yes. Vercel's AI builder now lives at v0.app; it was previously at v0.dev.
