DreamHost hosting in 2026: what the cheapest plan really costs over three years

The short answer

DreamHost's cheapest plan, Web Hosting Launch, is $2.89 a month on a 1-year term ($34.68), then renews at $10.99 a month. Over three years that is $298.44 for hosting, or $342.42 if you keep the free .com at its $21.99 renewal. It suits small sites that want a 1-year commitment and room for up to 25 sites.

The short version

  • Cheapest plan for one WordPress site: Web Hosting Launch, $2.89 a month on a 1-year term ($34.68 up front). It allows 25 sites and 25 GB of storage.
  • Three years: $298.44 for hosting if you start on the 1-year deal and renew yearly. Add $43.98 if you keep the free .com for years 2 and 3, for $342.42.
  • What renews: the plan at $10.99 a month, the .com at $21.99 a year, and email at $1.99 per mailbox a month after a 3-month trial.
  • Who it is for: small sites that want a 1-year commitment, not a 3- or 4-year prepay, and room for many sites on the cheapest plan.

We have not used DreamHost. Everything here comes from its own pricing pages, help center and Terms of Service.

What the cheapest plan really costs over three years

DreamHost’s Web Hosting plans are shared web hosting: your site sits on a server with other customers’ sites. Launch is the entry plan, and it runs WordPress with a MySQL database.

How you payYear 1Year 2Year 33-year total
(a) 36 months up frontNot publishedNot publishedNot publishedNot published
(b) 12 months intro, then yearly renewals$34.68$131.88$131.88$298.44

The arithmetic for (b): $2.89 × 12 = $34.68. Renewal is $10.99 × 12 = $131.88 a year. $34.68 + $131.88 + $131.88 = $298.44.

We used a yearly renewal term because DreamHost’s terms say a plan renews “at the then-current, non-promotional rate” for the same length as the original contract.

About row (a): DreamHost’s help center lists a “3 Years” billing option, but no 3-year price appeared on the pages we checked. The one longer deal we found is on its WordPress Hosting page: Launch at $1.99 a month for the first 4 years, renewing at $7.99 a month. That is $1.99 × 48 = $95.52 up front, covering years 1 to 4, then $95.88 a year from year 5. The page lists it apart from Web Hosting, so check that the cart shows the same plan.

The free domain. Annual plans include one free domain registration for the first year. A .com renews at $21.99 a year, so years 2 and 3 add $21.99 × 2 = $43.98. That makes $342.42 on option (b), or $139.50 on the 4-year deal.

The .com price may change. Verisign raises its wholesale .com fee from $10.26 to $10.97 a year on November 1, 2026. DreamHost had not published a new .com price on the pages we checked. Its $21.99 renewal is already well above the new fee. To keep the domain for less, see our registrar comparison.

Launch is rated for 40k monthly visits, with unmetered bandwidth. Monthly-billing prices were not shown on the pages we checked. DreamPress 1 is DreamHost’s managed WordPress plan: one site, with the CDN and staging that Launch lacks.

What is included

  • SSL: unlimited free SSL certificates, the padlock behind HTTPS.
  • Backups: daily automated backups. The help center says DreamHost “generally retains a 2-week backup of your website files” and that this “is not guaranteed.” You can restore files yourself in the panel in 5 to 15 minutes. Databases restore separately. No restore fee is mentioned.
  • Email: 20 mailboxes free for 3 months on Launch. After that, a paid email plan is added to your account automatically: $1.99 per mailbox a month billed monthly, or $1.67 billed yearly.
  • Free migration: the WordPress Hosting page says “every plan includes free site migrations” and offers a free automated migration plugin. A done-for-you move is described for DreamPress.
  • CDN and staging: not on Launch. A CDN (Bunny CDN) and 1-click staging come with the DreamPress upgrade.
  • Domain privacy: free for the life of the domain.

The uptime promise

DreamHost’s Terms of Service say: “DreamHost guarantees 100% uptime.” Announced scheduled maintenance and problems caused by your own code or settings do not count.

If they miss it, you get a credit of one day of hosting for each hour of downtime, up to 10% of your next prepaid renewal fee. The clock starts when you open a support ticket, so report an outage right away. It is a credit on your account, not cash back.

Leaving later

  • Full backups: yes. From the panel you can create an account backup that includes all users, databases and mailboxes. The files stay downloadable for 14 days, one file at a time.
  • Cancellation fee: none is stated in the terms. Plans auto-renew, so cancel before the renewal date.
  • Refund window: 30 days from signup, for card and PayPal payments. After that, no refunds, “even for unused portions.” Domains are never refunded.
  • The free domain: if you close hosting in the first year, the domain’s registration cost is taken out of your refund. The help article does not give the amount.
  • Moving the domain: turn off Transfer Lock, reveal the auth code in the panel, then approve the release email. You cannot transfer within 60 days of buying the domain. No transfer-out fee is mentioned.

Who it is right for, and who should look elsewhere

Right for:

  • Owners of one or a few small WordPress sites who want to commit for one year, not three or four.
  • Anyone who wants 25 sites on the cheapest plan.
  • People who want an uptime credit written into the terms.

Look elsewhere if:

  • You want staging or a CDN without paying for DreamPress.
  • You need mailboxes included long term. Budget for paid email after month 3.
  • You want more than 30 days to change your mind. That is the refund window.
