About Web Building

Affiliate disclosure

The short answer

Some links on Web Building are affiliate links. If you click one and buy, the vendor may pay us a commission. You pay the vendor's normal price, and commissions never change our scores, the order of our lists or what we say about a platform.

In plain words

Web Building is free to read. To pay for the site, we join some vendors’ affiliate programs. If you click one of our affiliate links and then buy a plan, the vendor may pay us a commission.

You pay the vendor’s normal price. We don’t add a fee, and you never have to use our link.

Our affiliate links go through a /go/ address on webbuilding.net, such as a “Visit” button on a review. The link then sends you to the vendor’s site. The vendor may set a cookie on its own site so it can tell the sale came from us.

Links to official pricing pages and help articles inside our text are there so you can check facts. They are not affiliate links.

Which companies

We may earn commissions through affiliate programs run by Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Framer, Hostinger and Shopify. If that list changes, we update this page.

We cover platforms whether or not they have a program with us. Self-hosted WordPress, for example, is a free, open-source CMS, and it gets the same full review as any paid builder.

What commissions don’t change

  • Scores. Exit scores follow a published rubric. See the exit score table.
  • Rankings. The order of our lists, like the best website builders, is not for sale and doesn’t depend on commissions.
  • Cost math. The 3-year cost always includes domain renewals, email and transaction fees, even when that makes a partner look more expensive.
  • Verdicts. Every review says who should not pick the platform.

No platform pays to be listed. How we gather facts is explained on how we research and in our editorial policy.

Why we tell you this

The Federal Trade Commission’s Endorsement Guides, revised in June 2023, say that a material connection such as an affiliate commission should be disclosed clearly. Beyond the rule, you should know who might benefit when you follow our advice.
