Comparison

Lovable vs v0: which AI builder is better in 2026?

The short answer

Lovable is the better fit for a non-developer: it builds the app and bundles hosting, a database and logins in one bill. v0, from Vercel, suits people who work with a developer or already use Vercel; it writes standard Next.js code and hosting is billed separately. v0 scores 10/10 for leaving and Lovable 9/10.

The quick verdict

Pick Lovable if you are a business owner without a developer and want one tool that builds the app, hosts it and runs the database and logins behind it. You pay one bill, in credits per message.

Pick v0 if you work with a developer, or already use Vercel (a popular hosting company for websites and apps built in code). v0, made by Vercel, writes clean Next.js code and can deliver its changes as GitHub pull requests. Hosting is billed separately by Vercel.

Both are vibe coding tools: you describe what you want and the AI writes real code you can keep. The difference is how much of the rest they handle for you.

Both have custom-priced Enterprise plans. Lovable’s pricing page lists “unlimited users” on its plans. v0’s Plus and Business plans are priced per user, so a three-person team pays three times. v0 also lists a $20 Premium plan in its docs, but that plan has been retired and is only for existing subscribers.

Cost over 3 years

For AI builders, the plan price is a starting point. What you really spend depends on how much you ask the AI to do, and the two tools count that work in different ways.

How Lovable credits work

  • Credits per message. According to Lovable’s plans and credits docs, a Build message costs more or less depending on how complex it is. Lovable’s examples range from 0.50 to 2.00 credits. Plan mode is 1 credit per message, and Chat is usually a fraction of a credit.
  • What Pro includes. 100 monthly credits plus 5 daily Build credits. At 0.50 to 2.00 credits each, 100 credits is roughly 50 to 200 Build messages a month.
  • Top-ups. $15 per 50 credits on Pro, $30 per 50 on Business.
  • Running costs. Hosting is included, and a live site does not use credits by itself. Backend activity (the database and logins at work) and AI features inside your app are billed as usage-based “Run credits.”
  • Expiry. Monthly credits roll over, then expire: 2 months after issue on monthly billing, or 1 month after the yearly period on yearly billing. Top-ups last 12 months.

How v0 credits work

  • Credits are dollars. v0’s credits are a dollar balance. Each message spends some of it, based on the number of tokens (small pieces of text) the AI reads and writes.
  • The model you pick sets the rate. v0’s pricing page lists prices per million tokens, input then output: Pro $2 / $10, Max $5 / $25, Max Fast $10 / $50, and a smaller model at $0.20 / $1.20.
  • What Plus includes. $30 of credits per user each month, plus $2 of free daily credits when you log in. As a rough guide, $30 covers 3 million output tokens on the Pro model, or 600,000 on Max Fast, before counting input tokens.
  • Business costs more but includes the same credits. Business is $100 per user a month with the same $30 of monthly credits as Plus. The extra money buys things like training opt-out by default.
  • Expiry. Unused monthly credits roll over and expire after 65 days. Purchased credits expire after one year, and you need an active paid plan to use them.

v0 does not publish how many tokens a typical message uses, so there is no fair way to turn $30 into a message count. Choosing the Pro model over Max Fast stretches the same credits five times further.

The worked example

Picture the same small service business: a public home page, a booking request form and a simple customer login area. One owner, one email mailbox, one .com domain name. Neither tool includes business email, so we added Google Workspace.

Cost item (3 years)Lovable Prov0 Plus
Plan$750 ($250 a year, billed yearly)$1,080 ($30 a month, 1 user)
HostingIncludedVercel plan, billed separately
.com domain at Namecheap$48.24$48.24
Google Workspace Business Starter, 1 user$252$252
Total before extra AI use$1,050.24$1,380.24 plus Vercel

The domain line is Namecheap’s $11.28 first-year price plus two renewals at $18.48. Email is Google Workspace Business Starter at $7 per user a month on the annual plan. We did not price Vercel’s hosting plans for this page, so check them before you choose v0.

Then add the range. On Lovable, one $15 top-up every month for three years adds $540, for about $1,590.24, plus any Run credits your live app uses. On v0, extra credits depend on which model you use and how big the project gets. Either way, most of the spend lands in the months you are building and fixing, not after launch.

Design and ease of use

Both start from a chat box with a live preview beside it. Neither has a drag-and-drop page editor like Wix or Squarespace.

Lovable is built around the whole app. Build mode writes the code, Plan mode helps you agree on an approach before spending more credits, and Chat answers questions. Its Lovable Cloud backend adds a PostgreSQL database, logins, server functions and file storage without you setting up another account. Code editing is included on paid plans.

v0 is built around the front end, the part people see. It generates Next.js and React code styled with Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui, which are common, well-known building blocks your developer will recognize. Design Mode lets you make visual edits, and it is available on the free plan. The v0 docs we read do not cover a built-in database or login system, so check that first if your app needs user accounts.

Deployment is also different. Lovable publishes with one click to its own hosting. v0 deploys with one click to Vercel. Deploying through GitHub or other Vercel tools depends on your Vercel roles, not your v0 role.

Store, blog and SEO

Store. Neither is a store builder. Both can build payments into a custom app, but we could not confirm payment integration details in either tool’s docs. If selling products is the main goal, a store builder such as Shopify is simpler.

Blog. Neither has a built-in CMS, the editing screen that lets you add posts without touching code. You can ask the AI to build a blog, but each new post may mean another prompt or a code edit.

SEO. Search engines need to see the full text of a page. Lovable projects created after 13 May 2026 use server-side rendering, which means the server sends a finished page. Older Lovable projects draw pages in the browser, but Lovable serves ready-made copies to verified search engines, social preview bots and AI crawlers. v0 builds on Next.js, which supports server rendering, but v0 publishes no SEO-specific guidance in the docs we read. Our SEO glossary entry covers the basics.

AI features

Lovable:

  • Build, Plan and Chat modes
  • Lovable Cloud backend: database, logins, server functions and storage
  • An AI gateway for adding AI features to your app (usage-based)
  • Security scanning on every publish, with a deeper scan on demand

v0:

  • Chat-based generation of full Next.js apps and single page sections
  • A choice of AI models at different credit costs
  • Design Mode for visual edits
  • Changes delivered as GitHub pull requests, which v0 can open and merge

A pull request is a proposed change that someone can review before it goes live. That workflow suits teams with a developer. A solo owner may find Lovable’s publish button simpler.

Leaving later

These are two of the easiest tools to leave on our exit scores: v0 scores 10 out of 10 and Lovable 9. Both give you real code. Both rate “high” on the skill needed to leave, because someone has to run that code somewhere else.

v0 works through GitHub. Its docs say that once a GitHub repository is connected, “it becomes the source of truth for your project’s code.” Your data lives in services under your own accounts, and the hosting is already in your own Vercel account.

Lovable syncs code two ways with GitHub on every plan, and paid plans can download the project as a .zip file. Its FAQ says “Your apps, code, and the content you create with Lovable are yours,” subject to open-source licenses. Lovable publishes a guide to hosting elsewhere and moving the backend to Supabase, and warns that “each part you move becomes yours to run, update, and secure.” The database can be exported once every 24 hours, and signed-in users must sign in again after the move. That is why its data score is 1 out of 2.

One more Lovable limit: you cannot import an existing GitHub repo into Lovable. v0 can start from an existing repo. Our guide to leaving your website builder covers the moving steps.

Pick Lovable if… Pick v0 if…

Pick Lovable if:

  • You do not have a developer and want hosting, database and logins in one bill
  • You want to estimate cost per message (0.50 to 2.00 credits in Lovable’s examples)
  • You want a team plan that is not charged per person
  • You want a documented exit plan before you start

Pick v0 if:

  • You or your developer already host on Vercel
  • You want standard Next.js code that a developer can pick up on day one
  • You want AI changes reviewed as GitHub pull requests
  • You want to start from an existing GitHub project

Neither? Look at…

  • Bolt, if you want an all-in-one tool like Lovable but with model choice and GitHub import. See Lovable vs Bolt.
  • A design-first website builder, if you need a marketing site rather than an app. Framer vs Lovable explains when a website beats an app.
  • Self-hosted WordPress, if you want full control and a 10/10 exit score with an editor anyone can use. We build on WordPress every week. Read our WordPress review.

Questions people ask

Is v0 more expensive than Lovable?

How do v0 credits work?

v0 credits are a dollar balance spent per token, at a rate set by the AI model you pick. Plus includes $30 of credits per user each month plus $2 of free daily credits when you log in.

Does v0 include hosting?

v0 deploys to Vercel with one click, including on the free plan, but hosting is billed under your Vercel plan, not your v0 plan.

Can I take my code with me?

Yes, with both. v0 works through your GitHub repo, which becomes the source of truth. Lovable syncs to GitHub on all plans and lets paid plans download a .zip.

Which is easier for a beginner?

Lovable, for most owners, because hosting, database and logins come built in. v0 makes the most sense when a developer will help set up hosting and data.
