GoDaddy website builder review 2026: what Airo AI Builder really costs
The short answer
GoDaddy's website builder is now sold as Airo AI Builder, a prompt-driven tool that generates websites and simple web apps as code. It's one of the cheaper ways to get a site live, at $9.99 a month billed yearly ($19.99 billed monthly) for one published site, and paid plans let you download your code. The trade-off is that a lot isn't documented yet, from payment rates to what the code download includes, so it scores a provisional 5/10 on our exit score.

What it is and who it’s for
GoDaddy’s website builder is now sold as Airo AI Builder. Instead of picking a template and dragging blocks around, you describe what you want in plain words, and the AI generates a website or a simple web app for you. It is metered by AI credits, and GoDaddy runs the hosting on paid plans.
That makes it a different kind of tool from the GoDaddy builder many people remember. It works more like the new wave of AI app builders, built on vibe coding (describing what you want and letting AI write the code), than like a classic drag-and-drop builder.
Why you see two names
If you search for “GoDaddy website builder,” you still land on GoDaddy’s website builder page. That page now sells Airo AI Builder. It says “Start for free with 50 AI credits a month” and offers a free domain with a paid Airo AI Builder plan.
GoDaddy’s older builder was sold as Websites + Marketing, with Basic, Premium and Commerce plans. We couldn’t find those plans on GoDaddy’s current official pages. GoDaddy also doesn’t say, on the pages we checked, exactly when the switch happened or what it means for existing customers.
The old name lives on in industry data. W3Techs still tracks “GoDaddy Website Builder” and counts it on 0.6% of all websites.
Who it suits
- Small businesses that want a cheap, fast AI-generated site or a simple web app.
- People who want to own and download the code that the AI writes.
- People who already keep their domains at GoDaddy and want everything in one account.
It is a weaker fit if you want a mature visual editor with a big app marketplace, or if you run a store and need published payment rates and commerce limits before you commit.
Plans and what they really cost
Here are the four plans, according to GoDaddy’s Airo AI Builder page.
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | AI credits a month | Sites you can publish |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 50 | None* |
| Starter | $9.99 a month | $19.99 a month | 150 | 1 |
| Professional | $24.99 a month | $49.99 a month | 300 | 10 |
| Ultimate | $99.99 a month | $199.99 a month | 750 | 50 |
*The free plan needs no credit card and lets you build unlimited sites and apps. GoDaddy frames it as a place to “explore any idea.” A third-party review from Business.com says you can’t publish without upgrading to a paid plan.
What the paid plans include:
- Starter: connect your own domain, download your code, sell unlimited products and services, and one free domain with a new annual purchase.
- Professional: everything in Starter plus team access to Airo AI Builder.
- Ultimate: everything in Professional, with more AI credits and more published sites.
Billing yearly roughly halves the monthly cost. Starter is $9.99 a month billed yearly but $19.99 billed monthly. The free domain is “for 1st year only; renews at current prices,” and GoDaddy notes that additional restrictions apply.
GoDaddy’s plan page doesn’t say whether these plan prices are introductory rates that renew higher. Check the renewal price on the checkout screen before you pay.
AI credits are the other limit to watch. Every plan caps how much AI work you can do each month: 50, 150, 300 or 750 credits depending on the plan. If you run out, you wait for next month’s credits or upgrade.
A 3-year cost example
Say you run a small business that needs one published website and one professional email inbox. Starter covers one site, so here is Starter billed yearly over three years.
| Cost | Year 1 | Years 2-3 | 3-year total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter plan ($9.99 x 12) | $119.88 | $239.76 | $359.64 |
| .com domain | $0 (free year) | $45.98* | $45.98 |
| Email, 1 inbox | $84 | $168 | $252 |
| Card processing | Not published | Not published | Not included |
| Total | $203.88 | $453.74 | $657.62 + card fees |
*The free domain renews at GoDaddy’s current price. GoDaddy’s .com page lists renewals at $22.99 a year, so we used that. The plan page doesn’t list a bundled email offer, so we used $7.00 per user a month on an annual plan, the price of both Google Workspace Business Starter and Microsoft 365 Business Basic.
A few things change the picture:
- Paying monthly doubles the plan cost. Starter at $19.99 a month comes to $719.64 over three years for the plan alone.
- More than one site means Professional. The same setup on Professional billed yearly totals $1,197.62 over three years.
- Selling online adds card fees. GoDaddy’s plan page promises “quick and secure payment processing” but doesn’t publish the rates.
Even with those caveats, Airo AI Builder is one of the lower-cost ways to get a small business site live. You can compare it with other builders in our website cost calculator.
What you can build
Design
There’s no template gallery to browse on the plan page, and GoDaddy doesn’t publish a template count. Your project is generated as code from your prompts. On paid plans you can download that code as a zip file, edit it on your own computer and upload it again.
That’s a big difference from most builders. The upside is flexibility and ownership. The downside is that fine-tuning a design may mean writing better prompts, spending credits, or editing code yourself.
Blog and content
GoDaddy’s plan page doesn’t list a built-in blog or content manager. If a blog matters to you, try building one on the free plan before you pay, and see how easy it is to add and edit posts.
Online store
Every paid plan, starting with Starter, lists “sell unlimited products and services.” GoDaddy doesn’t publish card processing rates, transaction fees or other store limits on the plan page. For a store of any size, that’s a lot of unknowns. Test checkout on the free plan and confirm the rates with GoDaddy before you launch.
SEO
The plan page doesn’t detail SEO tools. Before you pay, use the free plan to check that you can edit page titles and meta descriptions, set redirects and get a sitemap. These are basics that help search engines find and rank your pages.
AI features
AI is the whole product here. Airo AI Builder generates websites and web-based apps from prompts, and every change you ask for draws on your monthly AI credits. The other headline feature is code download: a zip of your files that you can keep as a backup or move elsewhere.
Hosting is included on paid plans, covering 1, 10 or 50 published sites depending on the plan. Storage and bandwidth limits aren’t listed on the plan page.
What happens when you leave
Airo AI Builder scores a provisional 5/10 on our exit score, which rates how much of a site you can take with you. The skill needed to leave is medium. The score is provisional because GoDaddy hasn’t documented exactly what its code download contains.
| Part | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Content | 1 of 2 | In the zip, but contents not documented |
| Design | 1 of 2 | The design is in the generated files |
| Code | 1 of 2 | Zip download; no proof it runs fully elsewhere |
| Data | 0 of 2 | Store and customer export not documented |
| Domain | 2 of 2 | You can keep your domain |
The code download
Paid plans list “Download your code.” GoDaddy’s help article on downloading your files and code says your project downloads as a zip file containing “your files and code.” GoDaddy says you can export your app or site to make a local backup, edit it locally and re-import the files to Airo AI Builder or “other hosting products.”
GoDaddy also states: “Everything you build with Airo AI Builder belongs to you.”
What we don’t know yet
- Whether the zip includes databases, backend data and uploaded images.
- Whether store data such as products, orders and customers can be exported.
- Which plans allow the download. The help article doesn’t say; the plan page lists it on paid plans.
That’s why the code part scores 1, not 2, and data scores 0. If GoDaddy documents a full export, the score could go up.
Your domain
GoDaddy is itself a domain registrar, so your domain can stay at GoDaddy even if you stop using the builder, or you can transfer it to another registrar. You can also connect a domain you already own elsewhere on any paid plan.
Practical tip: once you’re on a paid plan, download your code early and look at what’s inside. Running that code on other hosting will likely need someone comfortable with web code. Our guide to leaving your website builder covers the rest of the move.
Gotchas
- The free plan is for building, not publishing. A third-party review says you can’t publish without a paid plan; GoDaddy’s page frames the free plan as a way to “explore any idea.”
- Monthly billing costs about double. Starter is $9.99 a month billed yearly and $19.99 billed monthly (Airo AI Builder plan page).
- The free domain is first-year only. It renews at current prices, and GoDaddy’s .com page lists renewals at $22.99 a year (plan page; GoDaddy .com page).
- AI work is capped. Each plan has a monthly AI credit limit (plan page).
- Export contents aren’t documented. The help article doesn’t say whether databases, images or store data are in the zip (GoDaddy help center).
- Payment rates aren’t published. The plan page mentions payment processing but lists no rates (plan page).
- Older plans are unclear. The Websites + Marketing plans aren’t on GoDaddy’s current pages, and their status for existing customers isn’t stated.
Who should pick it, who should not

- You like the idea of describing your site in plain words instead of dragging blocks.

Skip it if

- You don’t want to think about AI credit limits.
