Notes on each route
- Square. Prices are per location, billed monthly. Connecting your own domain is documented for Plus and Premium. Square Premium, at $149 a month, comes to $5,664.24.
- GlossGenius. Billed monthly, Standard at $28 comes to $1,308.24. The pricing page doesn’t say whether the booking site can use your own domain (GlossGenius pricing).
- Vagaro. The $23.99 rate is for the first 6 months only, so we use the regular $30 for all 36; with the intro rate, three years come to $1,344.18. Calendar licenses are $10 each, up to seven, and the MySite price isn’t published. A design service is $299, a limited-time price struck from $699 (Vagaro pricing).
- Fresha. The pricing page doesn’t say whether Smart Website works with your own domain.
- Squarespace and Acuity. Billed monthly, Basic ($25) plus Acuity Standard ($34) comes to $2,424.24, because the free first-year domain comes only with yearly plans. Basic charges a 2% fee on online sales; Core doesn’t, and Core includes one Google Workspace account free for the first year.
- WordPress. Bluehost’s $3.99 needs a 36-month term and renews at $9.99 a month. Bookly Pro’s $39 is shown discounted from $99; if later years bill at $99, add $120. Amelia’s price labels were inconsistent, so check at checkout. A free theme is assumed.
- Mangomint. The $10 per user covers anyone with a profile, including front desk staff and booth renters.
- Boulevard. Premier ($234) and Prestige ($328) are limited-time fall prices for new customers (“Terms apply”), normally $293 and $410; at $410, Prestige comes to $15,192.60. The annual price isn’t published (Boulevard pricing).

Marketplace fee vs flat price: a worked example
This is an example, not a quote. Say you’re a solo stylist with 40 appointments a month at a $60 average, or $2,400 a month, all paid by card in person. Five of the 40 are new clients who found you through the app’s marketplace.
| Booking app | Monthly math | Per month | Over 36 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Square Free | $0 + 2.6% x $2,400 + 40 x $0.15 | $68.40 | $2,462.40 |
| Fresha Independent, no marketplace clients | $19.95 + 2.29% x $2,400 + 40 x $0.20 | $82.91 | $2,984.76 |
| GlossGenius Standard, billed yearly | $24 + 2.4% x $2,400 + 40 x $0.15 | $87.60 | $3,153.60 |
| Booksy, Boost off | $29.99 + 2.49% x $2,400 + 40 x $0.10 | $93.75 | $3,375.00 |
| Square Plus | $49 + 2.5% x $2,400 + 40 x $0.15 | $115.00 | $4,140.00 |
| Fresha, 5 marketplace clients | $82.91 + 5 x (20% x $60) | $142.91 | $5,144.76 |
| Booksy, 5 Boost clients | $93.75 + 5 x (30% x $60) | $183.75 | $6,615.00 |
| Mangomint, 1 user | $130 + 2.45% x $2,400 + 40 x $0.15 | $194.80 | $7,012.80 |
What the table doesn’t show:
- The fee is one-time per client. A new client who keeps coming back costs nothing extra after the first visit, and you might not have found that client otherwise.
- Minimums and caps. On a $25 service, Fresha’s 20% would be $5, but its minimum is $6. On a $400 color service, Booksy’s 30% would be $120, but it’s capped at $100. Fresha says a cap applies on higher-value services but doesn’t state the amount.
- Payout speed. Instant or fast payouts cost extra: 1.5% on Booksy and 1.8% on GlossGenius.
Vagaro isn’t in the table because its processing rates aren’t published. Online and card-on-file payments cost more, such as 3.5% + $0.15 for Square’s card on file.
If you have a team of four
Subscription only, for four bookable people: Fresha Team is 4 x $14.95 = $59.80 a month ($2,152.80 over 3 years). GlossGenius Gold is $48 a month billed yearly for up to 9 staff ($1,728). Booksy is $29.99 + 3 x $20 = $89.99 ($3,239.64). Boulevard Essentials is $143 for up to 5 providers ($5,148). Mangomint is $120 + 4 x $10 = $160 ($5,760). For Vagaro, the pricing page lists calendar licenses at $10 each up to seven, but doesn’t say how many the $30 plan includes, so we left it out.
Contracts and the cost of leaving
| Vendor | Contract | Leaving | What you keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| GlossGenius | Monthly, auto-renews | Cancel before the next cycle; no refund for the current month | Data is yours, but access ends when you cancel |
| Fresha | Monthly | 30 days’ written notice for paid services; fees owed meanwhile | You back up your own data |
| Booksy | No commitment | Cancel any time | Terms could not be checked |
| Vagaro | No term published | “No cancellation fees,” with exclusions not listed | Terms could not be checked |
| Square | Cancel or switch anytime | No fee mentioned | Client list as CSV; the site stays (2/10) |
| Acuity | Monthly or yearly | Yearly plans refunded if cancelled within 14 days | Past appointments and client data export |
| Mangomint | No contracts | Cancel before the next cycle; no proration | Data for at least 30 days; export help may cost extra |
| Boulevard | 12 months, auto-renews | You owe the full term; 30 days’ notice to not renew | Data export for up to 30 days, if paid up |
- Price changes. GlossGenius may change fees on 14 days’ notice. Fresha and Boulevard give 30 days; Boulevard lets you terminate if you disagree (Boulevard agreement).
- Fresha’s terms. Your access to client data lasts for the term of the agreement (Fresha partner terms).
The bigger cost of leaving is often the rebuild. Export your client list before you cancel anything. For site builders, Square Online scores 2/10 on our exit score, Wix 3/10, Squarespace 5/10 and self-hosted WordPress 10/10; compare them in our exit scores tool.
Hidden costs to ask about
- Text messages. Fresha lists marketing texts at $0.08 each; Boulevard’s texts are usage-based, with no rate listed.
- Processing tied to features. Mangomint lets you use your own processor, but its own processing is required for deposits, cards on file and self-checkout.
- Passing fees to clients. Boulevard Offset lets clients pay a 3% card fee while you pay 1%. Before you pass any fee on, read the price rules in our salon website builder guide.
- Add-ons. GlossGenius payroll is $40 a month plus $6 per seat, Fresha’s Client Loyalty $59.95 a month per location, and Mangomint’s phone add-on $70 a month per line.
How to keep the cost down
- Count your marketplace clients. If most clients are regulars, a flat price usually beats a per-client fee.
- Send clients to your own link. Fresha doesn’t charge for new clients who find you through your website or social pages, unless they first saw your Fresha profile, and Booksy charges no commission on clients from your own marketing.
- Pay yearly where it’s cheaper. GlossGenius Standard is $24 instead of $28, Acuity Starter $16 instead of $20, Squarespace Basic $19 instead of $25.
- Use trials. GlossGenius and Booksy offer 14 days with no card, Vagaro 30 days, and Fresha and Acuity 7 days.
- Own your domain at your own registrar, and export your client list on a schedule.

Questions people ask
How much does a salon website cost?
From published prices, $300.24 to $12,240.60 over three years, including a domain and one email inbox, before card fees. GlossGenius Standard billed yearly comes to $1,164.24 and Wix Core to $1,332.96.
How much does salon booking software cost per month?
Solo plans run from $0 (Square Free) to $30 a month (Vagaro, after a $23.99 intro rate for 6 months). Premium platforms run $120 a month per location plus $10 per user on Mangomint, and $143 to $328 per location on Boulevard.
Is a marketplace new-client fee worth it?
It can be, because you pay it once per new client and only for clients the app found for you. In our example, five $60 marketplace clients a month cost $60 on Fresha or $90 on Booksy Boost. If most of your bookings are regulars, a flat price usually costs less.
Do salon booking apps have contracts?
Most don't: GlossGenius, Fresha, Booksy, Vagaro, Square and Mangomint all say you can cancel any time. Fresha asks for 30 days' written notice on paid services, and Boulevard starts with a 12-month term that renews automatically.
Why does Vagaro's price show $23.99 and $30?
Vagaro's pricing page shows $23.99 a month as an exclusive rate for the first 6 months and $30 a month after that. We use $30 for 3-year math, which comes to $1,380.24 with a domain and email, or $1,344.18 with the intro rate.
